Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) focuses on how we learn, communicate, change, grow, and heal. It assists people in detecting and re-programming unconscious thoughts and behavior patterns, so that psychological responses may be altered and the healing process enhanced.
NLP is composed of three aspects. The first aspect, or “neuro” aspect, understands that all human behavior is driven by neurological processes, which include the five senses. All human beings experience the world directly through their five senses. Humans then use language to communicate their experiences and thoughts, which in turn makes up the “linguistic” part. Lastly, the “programming” aspect of NLP recognizes that each individual chooses to organize his or her actions and ideas in a way that is unique to that individual.
In essence then, “neuro” refers to the way the brain works and how human thinking demonstrates consistent and detectable patterns. “Linguistic” refers to the verbal and nonverbal expression of the brain’s thinking patterns. “Programming” refers to how these patterns are recognized and understood by the mind and how they can be neurologically altered, allowing a person to make better choices in behavior and health. |
